Summer Learning Journey WEEK 2 Day 4

DAY 4: Spectacular, Spectacular

Activity 1: Planes, Trains and Automobiles [4 points]
Arguably, one of the most dramatic and spectacular (beautiful) places to visit in New Zealand is Milford Sound. It has been referred to as the ‘eighth wonder of the world.’ It is a beautiful fiord (steep valley) that was formed when big pieces of ice (glaciers) melted. The melted glaciers created a beautiful river that is surrounded by dramatic cliffs and snow-capped mountains. People who visit Milford Sound are able to take a boat cruise through the middle of the fiord, walk around the area on the Milford Track or fly above the fiord as part of a private helicopter tour.
Let’s imagine that you had the chance to visit Milford Sound by boat, foot (walking) or air (helicopter). Which option would you prefer?
On your blog tell us which of the three options you would take to explore Milford Sound. Be sure to tell us why you have chosen this option.
This one was a bit hard to choose because the boat and air one was hard but I choose air. The reason why I choose the helicopter was , because I would then be able to see a better view. Another reason is If I was on a boat not only would I be able to see the side of the mountain but I will also see the top and what the hole thing looks-like. There is my answer hope you enjoyed reading it.
Activity 2: It’s All in the Name [4 points]
Rotorua is one of New Zealand’s most popular tourist destinations. It is a city filled with incredible forests, mountain biking tracks, lakes, and geothermal wonders, including hot springs (geysers) and mud pools. One of the most famous geothermal pools is called the Devil’s Bath at Wai-o-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. It is a neon green pool of stinky water.
Over the years, people have suggested that we come up with a new name for the pool. What do you think we should call it? Take a minute to let your creative juices flow.
On your blog, give us a list of three to five options for the name of this geothermal pool. Put a star (*) beside the name that you like the most.
I was told to write down three different option for the name of this pool , but I decide to do 7
Green apple juice
Lime water
Smelly slimy water
stinky snots water
*sticky slime
Gooey bubble gum
Green chewy roses
I know they are weird LOL.

Activity 3: Picture Perfect [10 points]
While New Zealand is home to some beautiful waterfalls, there are a number of stunning waterfalls in places like Canada and South Africa. In Canada, the largest waterfall is called Niagara Falls. It sits on the border between Canada and the United States of America. Thousands of tourists flock (go) to Niagara Falls every year to see the falls and to have their picture taken in front of this natural wonder. Over the past few years people have started taking ‘selfies’ and posting them online. Do you ever take selfies?
For this activity, choose one of the following three selfies. From left to right: Selfie #1, Selfie #2, Selfie #3

On your blog, write a short story about what you think is happening in the picture. Be sure to tell us where you think the people are and what you think they were doing at the time that they stopped to pose for the selfie. To earn full points, the story must be 8 – 10 sentences long.

Yes , I do take selfies. The 2nd and the 3rd one was a bit dangerous. As you can see that in the 3rd selfie the girl was very luck because she could have fell off the edge of the building and fell into the sea. You might not have know but once you get deeper into the sea you never know what could happened. What i'm trying to say is there could be so many rocks under the sea and normally as you fall down you sink to the bottom, because you put all your weight on you back witch makes you go down. As you can also see in the 3rd picture there is a man holding his camera high up in the air so that he can get the background in it. Did you also know that statue are made out of cement. well I did and if I was this man I would properly sit down because it is much safer. If you were to fall in the hole of the statue you can brake so much bones because it is cement and that is concrete. the first selfie looks like they were in a house with there friends. This 1st photo I thought was much safer because there in a house nobody can get hurt and not only is there one person but there was a few. Just be careful and choose the right choices that you think is right when you take a selfie. Be Smart.

  1. Kia ora Sonnia,

Wow. You are a blogging superstar! I am so amazed that you have made your way through two full weeks of the Summer Learning Journey programme and completed each activity to such a high standard. Way to go! Please know that I am reading your posts and keeping track of all of your work. I am responsible for commenting on all of the student's blogs this week so I am a little bit slow but our team is back in early January and we will all be reading and commenting on your work!

In the meantime, I just had to comment on this activity because you came up with some really cool, funny and quirky names for the green pool. Green chewy roses? Stinky snots water? How did you come up with these funny names? They are very creative!

I liked that you went above and beyond and came up with seven names instead of just three. That shows that you are really dedicated to the programme and willing to put in the extra effort. That is very cool.

I hope that you will continue to have a great summer exploring the city with your family, going for runs and walking through caves, while continuing on with the SLJ. You are already halfway through the programme and it's only December 30th!

Keep up the awesome effort, Sonnia.

    Bye for now,
    Rachel :)
